Under the patronage of the City of Matera, Rosella
Rosella is the story of a girl from a small town in Southern Italy who moves to Milan
during the economic boom years. Like millions of people, she is attracted by the job opportunities, by the
myth of the big city, and, in her case, also by the desire to escape a
feminine condition that has persisted for centuries. Ultimately, she leaves because everyone leaves,
and there are relatives who emigrated before her waiting for her. Rosella's periodic returns to
her hometown highlight a constant contrast between North and South.
Egidia Bruno, originally from Basilicata and a long-time collaborator in theater, writing, film,
television, and education, has built a significant part of her
artistic career around the themes of identity, memory, and the Southern Question.
