Antigone di Sofocle
Organized by Talìa Teatro

Description
Below is the synopsis of the play.
Creon, king of Thebes, decrees a ban on the burial of Polynices' body. Antigone, the deceased's sister, opposes the law of men with the moral law, which obliges family members to bury their loved ones. The tragedy unfolds around the conflict between Creon and Antigone. The doubts of the Thebans, of the soothsayer Tiresias, and of Haemon himself, Creon's son and Antigone's betrothed, are of no avail in convincing Creon to change his mind.
This tragedy dates back to the fifth century BC. It is considered by critics to be one of the greatest masterpieces of Western theater.
Sophocles confronts the spectator with the dilemma of justice and legality.
This theme will be taken up by numerous playwrights in the following centuries.
Among these, I like to mention our own Eduardo, in his "The Mayor of the Sanità District." Given the topicality of the subject matter, I highly recommend this show, especially to young people, who can truly learn so much from the lines of Sophocles' text.
