Theory and practice for making handmade booknotes
In the heart of the Sassi of Matera, amidst ancient stone and creative silence, a workshop dedicated to those who love books, writing, and authentic craftsmanship has opened.
During this afternoon workshop, you will discover the theoretical foundations of artisan bookbinding and the fundamental techniques for designing and creating a completely handmade booknote. From choosing the paper to sewing, from the cover to the final details, each phase will be guided step by step.
✨ What you'll do:
Introduction to traditional bookbinding materials and tools
Basic folding, sewing, and assembly techniques
Designing your own booknotes
Complete creation of your own handcrafted notebook
At the end of the experience, you'll take home your personalized booknotes: a unique object, created by your own hands, perfect for notes, sketches, travel, or future ideas.
👤 Who will guide you?
My name is Piervito Aresta. I'm a graphic designer from Matera, graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Urbino, and for several years I've collaborated with companies that are eager to experiment and combine creative languages.
Today, I divide my time between working for a communications agency and my freelance work, where—in addition to graphic design—I specialize in fine art printing, bookbinding, and the visual arts.
My approach, always experimental, curious, and deliberately imperfect, is what I want to convey to you during this Bookbinding workshop: not just a technique, but a way of looking at and constructing things with attention, freedom, and personality.
A slow and immersive experience, ideal for those who want to escape the daily grind and reconnect with craftsmanship and creativity, in one of Italy's most evocative cities.
