Description

Ballata Femmenella is a journey into Europe's largest and oldest transgender community, Naples, amidst centuries-old rituals and contemporary conflicts. Through the stories of its protagonists, the film explores an unbreakable bond with the city of Naples: a relationship of mutual belonging that makes one impossible to imagine without the other. The film also serves as a civic manifesto, dedicated to denied identities and the need, now more than ever, to restore their dignity, voice, and recognition. The documentary has already received major recognition on the international festival circuit. After its world premiere at the Perth Queer Film Festival, where it won Best Documentary Feature, it was presented in Italy at the Lovers Film Festival in Turin, winning the Torino Pride Award, the Gio Stajano Award, and the Audience Award. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with directors Elettra Raffaela Melucci and Giovanni Battista Origo, who will meet with the audience to explore the themes addressed in the film.
