In-cedere: il fluire del tempo in Lucania

Organized by Musei nazionali di Matera – Direzione Regionale Musei nazionali della Basilicata

Description

The National Museums of Matera – Regional Directorate of National Museums of Basilicata, as part of the project "In-cedere: the flow of time in Lucania," a recipient of the call for proposals "Promotion of Live Performance Activities by State Cultural Institutes and Sites 2026" from the Directorate General for Entertainment of the Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with the Avvertenze Generali Association, are inaugurating the second edition of the music section with the Phlegrea Philharmonic Orchestra. This musical initiative, conceived by the National Museums of Matera – Regional Directorate of National Museums of Basilicata, extends throughout the region and includes a series of events that will enliven Basilicata's museums and archaeological parks from June to September. The orchestra for these two concerts will be conducted by Maestro Rosario Assante di Cupillo, with the participation of soprano Miriam Cicotti. The orchestra, composed exclusively of professionals in the field: professors from the conservatories of Naples and Salerno, and musicians who regularly collaborate with the Teatro San Carlo in Naples and the Teatro Giuseppe Verdi in Salerno, brings classical music to evocative venues, making it accessible to a wide audience usually distant from classical repertoire. For the occasion, the musical genius of Ottorino Respighi will be celebrated, in the ninetieth anniversary of his death. Ancient dances and arias for lute will be performed, including the third suite, taken from a free transcription for string orchestra, Allegro moderato, Siciliana, and Passacaglia. Maestro Assante di Cupiello has also chosen to pay tribute to Giuseppe Verdi, on the 125th anniversary of his death, with Ave Maria from Otello, Act I, Soprano Eleonora Arpaise, and to Giacomo Puccini, performing opera arias from La Traviata, Rigoletto, Otello, and Gianni Schicchi. Participation in the concert is free, the only cost being the cost of the site entrance ticket.
